I have a photo you need to see. I have acquired 9,803 doubloons.
Here is how it happened.
I was fishing with WiFi enabled. I chose the Riverside. After about ten minutes I caught George. I continued to fish. I was looking for Gums. No bite from him. I had finished fishing for the evening and returned to the collection display to check on my items. I was surprised to see the EXCHANGE button for the Hookmaster Rod. I figured this was an error and the game would not give the rod. I hit the button. As predicted, I did not get the rod, but I did get 10 doubloons. However, my luck did not end there. I hit the buttton again and got 10 more. I hit the button a total of 972 times for a total of 9,720 doubloons. I was shooting for 10,000. I did not get that far. The program all of a sudden took me to the web and Yahoo's website. I tried to go back to FFF and it had to reload all over again. But my luck continued, I figured these free doubloons would not be there, but to my surprise, they sure were. I have tried to duplicate this scenario, but have been unsuccessful. Did I find an Easter Egg? I enjoy Fish Fishing and I now on the mission to complete the Free version.

Normally FFF will sit in memory ready to play when other apps are in the foreground. However, as with all apps, it has no control over this. So if the OS requires the memory for other apps you're running in the foreground it will kill whatever apps it needs in the background to get the memory. This means the next time you run them, they'll start from scratch (your game data is saved of course). The entry fees for the locations are designed to be 'per play' so when you do exit the game and return to it, you're effectively getting free play if the backgrounded game hasn't been stopped by the OS. It's odd that you're getting the game being killed so often though, but it does depend on the apps you tend to run.
A tip when you're targeting the collectibles. Try to cast about 20% short of the maximum distance for that fishing spot. That increases the chance (slightly) of hooking a collectible.
It's not something we've seen on any of our devices or had other reports of, so would be hard to investigate specifically, but I'll keep an eye out for it.
One possibility is that your phone has very low free memory. Especially if you're using the multitasking option all the time. I'd try the classic power cycle trick, ie power the phone fully off and then back on again. This will clear any memory that various apps might be hogging.
btw. just ruling stuff out, but I'm assuming your iPhone 4 is non jailbroken?
If you're installing a lot of apps, the installer seems to be one of the biggest culprits for grabbing memory. Always do a phone reboot after installing apps.
I'd like to clarify what you mean about FFF restarting though.. From what you wrote, I was under the impression that the game was going through its normal startup sequence when you tried to come back to it via the multitasking bar. This is what you'd get if the OS killed the game while another app was running, it would cause it to start again next time you launch it. That's something the OS does and nothing the game can really do anything about. If you're using the app store and installing apps, I wouldn't be surprised if the OS was ditiching backgrounded apps to get enough memory for the installation process.
Ah right, that is strange. Unless Apple has some other, not so documented rules, about how and when the multitasking system decided to switch off backgrounding apps.
I agree with bracken brewer......my fishing app restarts itself ALL THE TIME. Sometimes I will be right in the middle of fishing a spot and not even useing anything else on my phone and it jumps out to the menu.............to pick a new place to fish. Getting a bit upset at wasting all the dabloons I gain just to get back to a place I was currently fishing :(
not even close to being the only one Brewer....I have the iphone 3gs and it does the same thing. sometimes it will hold the game for days even if I make calls, take a text surf the net or anything. And then other times it will restart ....AS IM PLAYING lol. like I will be in the middle of casting and it pauses for a second and jumps back out to the screen with the lure, and makes you select from the main menu all over again.
yes I mean the initial load screen. I don't have this problem with any other app I use so I just figured it was because it was the free version until I came on here and saw more people with the same problem. didn't know there were any flickfishing url codes. I just got on my laptop last night to see if I could google the game to find out where to get the painting number 2.....since that seams to be the only one I can't find. I need to get a couple more lightbulbs but I think I got my original one in the nobeards cave. Got sarge in the river and the old guy at the beach. I don't use safari while using my games, and as far as stopping an app in the background.....yes that happens from time to time, however I'm talking about being in the foreground. There have been many occasions that I'm right in the middle of the game STILL PLAYING IT and it pauses for a second kind of like it does sometimes before giveing you the weight of your fish and then boom.....load screen. I have lost many many many dabloons to that.
just wanted to comment on the earlier comment of not haveing other reports..........I don't know if they actually took the time to report it or not, I'm guessing not . but when I first downloaded the game when looking at the reviews that was one of the complaints listed. People were saying not to get the app because it's very good at taking your money and dabloons and doing this very problem. To me it's just an annoyance at this time because I have to fish forever to earn those dabloons just to loose them when I can finally afford to go to one of the fishing locations. But I haven't actually lost any cash because I haven't paid for any of them. Fished for them all.
hey john do you know if that glitch still exists?? I could use a few dabloons from the ones that got taken when the app restarts on me lol. I assume when you exit though that you lose your fishing spot for the day so if it didn't work you would be down more dabloons lol
Thanks, I'll keep an eye out for anything that could possibly cause it, but it's a fairly obscure case. The fact that yours is doing it repeatedly should hopefully mean we'll be able to come up with a way of repeating it here too though.
Also, do you have a Plus+ account? If so get in touch via customer support (or info at strangeflavour.com) and I'll see about zapping some replacement doubloons to your device ;)
Yep saw that right after I posted....tried to set up an account right from my phone and it got all the way to the end where you can put in a profile pic and stuff and it locked up.....now I can't even enter the game to play at all.......when I hit the app.....it goes to the load screen and just sits there unti the phone shuts off even if I keep hitting it to keep the screen on. I don't know what I need to do now to get back on there but for now I can't play at all :(
That does sound like you're either very much out of memory and need to power down your phone and power it back up again to clear out fragmented memory and/or your copy of flick fishing is damaged and needs to be re-installed (delete then re-install).
That's what I thought at first before I posted. powered off yesterday 4-5 times and nothing. went to browser cleared all history, cash, cookies....powered down and back up....nothing.......then today just before going to my son's open house.....ding ding ding out of the blue it starts right up and recognizes my entry for the plus+ said welcome hookem550 lol so I guess that is the one it let me use lol......YAY at least I can play the game again.
If you buy the top pack (currently 500 doubloons), it currently permanently removes the ads from your copy of the game.
You can of course, play Flick Fishing Free entirely for free. Purchasing doubloons is entirely optional.
Getting all the collectible items for the various gizmos, reels, rods etc. should take quite a long time. It's designed with the intent that the player will tend to build up their collection over time while primarily catching fish, but some players do like to go for the collections specifically. There are some tips in the other threads, but essentially try and get the red rod as early as possible as this gives a small extra chance of hooking a collectible item and cast to around 70% distance to get another slight boost to the chance you'll hook a collectible item.
The other trick if you're specifically after collectibles is to immediately reel in as fast as possible when you get a bite. If it's a fish the line will probably break, but collectibles are always light, so they'll reel in quickly (and saves you having to spend time battling a fish before casting again).
