my iPhone 3G struggles with FlickFishing and some other apps - slowness and crashing issues. Has anyone else upgraded an iPhone 3G to iOS 4.1? Are you any worse off? I'd like to upgrade my iPhone, but not if FF performance is going to be worse - any one with real world experience?

As with a lot of games, Flick Fishing uses a lot of memory and when running iOS 4, the 3G is right at its limits.
There's an update we've done to Flick Fishing that's going through testing at the moment that lowers its memory footprint and should help matters, but generally if you're on a 3G with iOS 4, make sure you power cycle (switch off, switch back on again) regularly to clear memory and if you have the option, switch off the Spotlight search feature (I found that improved things generally on my 3GS running iOS 4)
Ah right. So far I'd say the jury's out on 4.1 on a 3G. 4.0 was terrible on a 3G on everything, not just Flick Fishing, but Apple claims 4.1 should be better. However it's still using more of the memory than 3.1.3 did so unless you *really* need folders and backgrounds it might be worth waiting for your next iPhone hardware upgrade. In terms of Flick Fishing, definitely worth waiting until the update is out.
Flick Fishing 1.5.3 update now available with Retina Display, fast switching etc. on iOS 4 and a new named fish "Buckles"!
More importantly for older iPhones, I've managed to reduce the memory footprint so it should play a little nicer if you've got iOS 4 on a 3G or 3GS.
Another 'secret' feature I've added a little earlier than planned is that if you reverse the button press sequence that lets you download your Plus+ highscores to your photo album (ie 5-2-3-1-7 instead of 7-1-3-2-5) when you're logged into Plus+ it will resubmit all your current fish weights to the Plus+ leaderboards (although not for awards yet, that's more complicated).
heh - I've not been able to use 71325 for quite some time, it seems not to work for me. Maybe it's just fat fingers mostly, but even when I did get success, the photo album info never changed. Hoping it works better now and am happy to see the reverse procedure in place, thanks.
Have been using 1.53 for half a day, no crashes yet on iPhone 3G with iOS 3. It opens more quickly and loads the fishing locations considerably snappier - great job Zwilnick!
Cake month? Happy Birthday FF.
Picked up a pb Blue Marlin plus 2 others over 1,000 lbs at Blue Deeps with the lure... that's new! Previous best with the lure was just under 960 lbs.
After playing with it for some days now (including doing the quest twice!), am finding this 1.53 version of FF is really considerably snappier than the last on my 3G iPhone running iOS 3. From initial loading to switching locations, the speed improvements are quite noticeable - that's really good work Zwilnick.
I'm wondering if I anyone else has a 3G iPhone on iOS 4 now - how does FF run on that? Think it's nearly time to bite the bullet & upgrade.
I notice the 10 second wait for a bite with the sea lure can be cut short by a flick of the reel as with other baits - that's a change. Intended?
I meant to also say that FF 1.53 has yet to crash on my little old iPhone. That's something I like very much!
Nothing's actually changed with the bait and way the fish bite. The delay before you get a bite is random but the range of time is based on the type of bait, what fish go for it and the distance of the cast. Flicking the reel is just one of those coincidental things that seems like it's making a difference ;)

well, I am now on iOS 4.1 and for the record FF 1.53 is running very well on my iPhone 3G. No noticeable lag cf iOS 3 & FF 1.53, so for me, it's been a good upgrade & I can recommend it.
if anyone's curious, iOS 4.2.1 is not a bother for Flick Fishing on my iPhone 3G. Both running reasonably well.
Thanks, Graeme. I'm downloading iOS 4.2 for my iPod 3G right now.

Buckles shouldn't be coming up as a Breakwater fish in the challenge. What challenge rank have you got to? (looking into this as a possible bug, if that's the case, play the other game modes until we can get a patch in place as Buckles shouldn't appear at the Breakwater)
cool stuff, you're effectively #1 as the bug means that's as high a score as you can get at the moment and it looks like we've got some corrupted scores above that. I've fixed the bug and the patch should be going in with the current update that solves the 3.1.3 issues, so hopefully it'll be available pretty soon.
the Plus+ leaderboards can sometimes take a while to update, or it's possible you were offline (or Plus+ was) when it tried to update the leaderboard with your catch.
The 1.3.1 update is for players who are still on iOS 3.1.3 devices. Not many of them left, but a glitch in the 1.3 update caused them to crash, so we got a quick update out for them.
Unfortunately the fix for challenge mode was still being tested when the initial update to fix the 3.1.3 issues got approved, so it's going through approval at the moment. Hopefully it'll go through as quickly as the last one and you should see the 1.3.2 update in the next week.
As soon as Apple approves it.
which is now :) 1.3.2 is now on iTunes
