I suspect SS is not high on their priority list. I reported a serious error with the tempo change filter a few weeks ago. Was told that deleting the prefs file would fix it. It didn't. I haven't heard squat from them since, not even an acknowledgement that they received my response. It's like yelling in a large dark cavern; you know there should be an echo, but it never comes.
If it's the bug where the tempo feature inserts a little silence a short way into the track, it's been reported and has been there a long time. The developer gave me a workaround to insert a second of silence at the start, do the tempo change, then delete slightly more than one second. They have no intention to ever fix it.
Thank you so much for your reply and your suggestion. Apparently, the support staff and the developers don't communicate with each other, let alone with users. I've observed that the tempo bug is a bit more than just a gap of silence. Sometimes it produces two segments of silence near each other, but it also shifts the entire selection a bit to the right, adding a bit to the left, and dropping some of the wave on the right.
After my experience with support, I did a bit of research and found a better workaround than the one you suggest. I've found at least two other packages, one free and one donationware, that do not have this software error. I should add that unlike the SS documentation, theirs at least warns you that at drastic tempo changes there will likely be artifacts and they explain the reasons why this happens. But at the changes I need (1-3% increased tempo) I have experienced no problems. And though their interface is not as simple as SS, they offer features that make beat matching between songs SO much easier.
Ah, yes, I forgot two gaps are inserted. I never noticed the right-hand loss as I always did it to entire tracks which generally end in silence. I'm glad you found some better solutions. I wrote a macro to fix the problem, so I'm sure that it can be fixed by any software (basically by automating the workaround).
I have fixed my belt-drive turntable to run at the right speed (it was too fast, so I put some mactac tape around the rim that was the *perfect* thickness. :-)
But I digress from the main point of this: that Freeverse isn't really supporting resolution of this problem. Paul from Freeverse requested sample files from me in Sept. 2008 (even though the problem is 100% reproducible with *any* file). I provided them and he never *ever* replied, even though I was quite respectful throughout. It was in Oct. of 2008 that Lucius (the developer) gave me the workaround via email.
Rlaniewski, can you please share the names of the other software you found?
Since you ask... I tried several and there were some issues with most, but the one that stood out and worked was Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/), and it was a free one. Since then, I've heard unsolicited praise for that program from two separate individuals. Please be mindful that it claims to be "beta" and that there may be bugs in the program. For what I needed, it was perfect. I honestly do not recall the issues I had with the other programs, and since I promptly discarded them, I just as promptly forgot their names. Best of luck to you!
I downloaded the demo version. Made a very ambitious AIFF-file with music for approximately 75 minutes (16.32 GB). And I thought ”this is going well” and decided to buy the software. But all I have so far is an unfinished musicfile that I can't open in either the demo version or the full version without the software crashing. Can someone tell what's wrong? How can I open the file? /P
I downloaded the demo version. I have a mac pro with Mac OS 10.6.5. Every time i try to open Sound Studio it crashes unexpectedly. I have repared the permissions, installed SOUND STUDIO several times but still the same thing. My question is: Is it really supported for snow leopard?
It works fine with my iMac 27 quad core running 10.6.5. Perhaps try deleting all preferences. If that doesn't work, perhaps you should delete everything you can find related to Sound Studio then reinstall. It's a great program so I think it's worth a try.
Thanks for the reply Richard. I've already deleted a file named "com.felttip.SoundStudio.plist" but it didn't change anything. Are there others files that i can delete in order to make a full desinstall of SOund Studio?
It appears that FV is totally uninterested in putting any time into this product, even support. They should give (not sell) it back to the original author, Lucius Kwok, instead of letting it die like this. But FV support appears to be an issue in other products as well, if you take a look at some of the other forums.
Can anyone just tell me which files have to be deleted in order to delete Sound Studio fully? I've just find one file called "com.felttip.SoundStudio.plist" in the prefs but is it the only one?
Penec, as far as I can tell it's the only pref to delete. But I still can't open my aiff file. The support-team don't seem to care. I'm giving up. This shitty software is going to the bin...
Robert it's sad. This software seems to be good. It would be so simple to send the crash log at the support team . Do you know an other app which can slow down audio and video in the same time.?i've found Amazing Slow Downer but it just can slow down audio ( it does it perfectly)
I thought so too, at the start. I'm not sure about other apps that can do what you're asking for. Pro logic, perhaps?
Robert I already have Logic but i'm looking for a simple app intended for musicians wanting to slow down music and video without changing the pitch. Very useful to transcribe some guitar stuffs from videos and footages for example. Sound studio can do it except when it is installed on my mac book pro with snow leopard ( it works with leopard) And it's very annoying...... Good luck Robert!
Hi Penec. Here's what I've found so far. First I used the Finder to search for felttip (System Files are included). I found the Prefs file you indicated, but I also found com.felttip.SoundStudio.LSSharedFileList.plist in ~\Library\Preferences and com.felttip.SoundStudio.tiff in an iSlayer cache. Perhaps you don't have those files though.
Next I did the same search on "Sound Studio" and "SoundStudio". I found a bunch of stuff. I would delete those too. In particular I would be worried about the "Sound Studio Scratch Files", but also anything else.
By the way I didn't know Sound Studio could slow down video. I thought it only deals with Audio.
Hi Richard. i made a mistake and you're right. Sound studio slows down only audio. Transcribe is the soft which can do both audio and video. I just remembered i get used to transcribe and not sound studio on my old computer to slown down music. But Sound studio is very useful too and i do want to have it on my new computer. Thanks for all. i will try to find all the files , delete them and see what happens.
Penec, have you checked Adobe Soundbooth CS4? I see that there is a task saying ”change pitch and timing”. Hope it'll work out for you.
Hi Robert & Penec!
I am checking back here after a year had give up and got a mixer and rack mounted sound effects I couldnt use the ones with SS3.
I'am glad to see theres been some activity.for some reason I didnt catch the email sent .
( I dont know who left the reply here on 7/12 2011 "I have a qusition Hubbs' from a "roha')
Anyway as far as the software for slowing down audio & Video -The AmazingSlowDowner is for audio very good I have had it about 4 years now.. Its very stable and has lots of settings (Fun to just play around with) its $49.00
Video wise, they have a Video software called " Ultimate DVD Player" it slows down the picture and other stuff, I havent used it, but the other software Iv got has worked well and was fine. but you know how that can be I use Mac and that is always a plus.
The company is "Roni" (there in Holland I think). . www.ronimusic.com and you can try it out free.
( not sure about the price. seemed like it was just a little more)
They also have some other cool things. Midi players Midi converters . in both formats Mac & Windows
Hope that helps guys

Updated Info:
There are many relatively inexpensive Mac sound editors and other apps that can vary tempo and/or pitch including Ambrosia's WireTap Studio, HairerSoft's Amadeus Pro, i3's DSP-Quattro 3, Audiofile Engineering's Wave Editor and even Apple's GarageBand. In OS X all of these sound editors make use of Apple's Core Audio API and Audio Units (AU) plug-in architecture, Apple's and other vendors AU plug-ins and Steinberg's Virtual Studio Technology (VST) plug-in format . For pitch and tempo control Apple's AUTimePitch is one plug-in that is commonly used. Variable parameter values can either be typed in or changed with slider controls in percentage, cent (one hundredth of a half step) and semitone (twelfth of an octave) units.
Pure Mac has a partial list of Mac audio programs here.
I know that Sound Studio has gone back to Felt Tip, but it would be nice if Freeverse would release the tutorials and any documentation previously made available for the Monbots, or give those materials to Felt Tip, because I can find no documentation or information anywhere explaining how to script or automate use of the Monbots.
