Fish of the day question...

Graeme Challis
asked this on July 27, 2010 02:32

Does the new fish of the day rollover at midnight local time?

Does everyone get the same FOTD for a particular calendar date?

Great to see the support pages here, hopefully it well be as good as the old forum. No signatures yet?

Yes to both questions, the fish of the day is calculated based off your current date.

At the moment they're just to remind you of the different fish and for bragging rights with their own Plus+ leaderboard but they're set up so we can use them for added functionality in future updates.

great, always nice to hear there new features coming up.

I wonder about the FoTD Plus+ leaderboard though... it's not so good right now is it, with the top 22 positions taken by users with corrupt data. Is it possible to code around that to get more people on the board?

I hadn't spotted the corrupted data (been neck deep in code and moving office the last month). I'll get this one onto someone on the Plus+ team to see if the leaderboards can be tidied of any obvious corrupted data.

By the sounds of it some of the Flick Fishing Plus+ leaderboards may have some corrupted data on them. Is there a way to check and possibly prune them?

the FOTD leaderboard is the worst. The "Longest Battle" is gibberish all through, the numbers there don't make any sense at all.

The others I'd draw to your attention are the "Best Fish: Lake Shiny" where the first entry is 200 lbs... which is rather large for the location. Similarly, the biggest Bonito is 58.95, about 25 lbs larger than the next best - pretty queer.

Another thing that happened to the leaderboards recently - about the same time the fish order was changed, grouping the Named Fish together at the end - those people who used to be equal first are now listed 1, 2, 3 etc instead of all being 1, 1,1.  Lots of examples there... Catfish, Roach, all way through for all fish that have more than one person on the same weight. Just a bug, easy fixed I'm sure.

The leader boards are still messed up. Any updates on this? It has been over a year since the last post

Those leaderboards... must either be impossible to fix or those who can do anything about have lost interest :(

Lets just say the chain of command for them seems to keep getting longer :/ With the various company buyouts there's changes going on in the backend too, so as well as pestering people to see if we can get anything done with the current leaderboards we're also looking towards a possible system change for them in the new year. It would probably involve a score reset but with the current leaderboards so messed up anyway that might just be a good thing :)

by "possible system change", are you implying quitting Plus+ and going with say, Game Centre? After 3 years, a score reset would not be viewed overly favourably. Presumably though, you can get most of the info right from the iOS device rather than starting everyone from scratch. Would be a good opportunity to get the new fish & named fish on the boards seeing as that doesn't seem possible with Plus+. Also... new awards perhaps?

If you want to see the fish of the day you have to wait and look at the title screen for a couple minutes if you don't like the fish of the day then wait for 2 days to find out the next one.

On Plus+, how far down does the corrupted data go I wonder?

I'm # 284 on the list with about 5800 FOTD caught.

How high on the list are others? Jumpmastah has landed 179,000 fish since Plus+ began - has probably landed the most FOTD of the 'live' players?

Graeme,

I had about 10800 Fish of the day, nothing compared to the gazillions some people had due to corrupt dat. Same started to happen on the total number of fish caught where Kamizoom has scored a grand total of  1.065.396.248 fish, miraculously managing to avoid being anywhere near the top number of fish caught anywhere else. I have great difficulty by the way staying connected to Plus+ in Flickfishing, whereas when playing baseball no such problem occurs. Impressed with Flickfishing , less so with the Plus+ network !
