Tire Tracks

  • Instead of searching all around the support forum for people’s luck with tire catching, let’s put our data in this single thread. In an effort to find a pattern of why some people cannot catch a tire, let’s list 3 things about our hardware running Flick Fishing (these can be found in iTunes when your iPod/iPad is connected and choose the summary tab under your device):
  1. iPod/iPad model (3rd/4th generation, etc. - you should know this, I don't think iTunes reports this)
  2. Memory (16GB, 32GB, etc.)
  3. iOS version (5.1.1, etc.)
  • Then let’s list our Flick Fishing data (again in iTunes, choose Library, Apps and right click on your Flick Fishing icon and look at the Summary tab):
  1. Flick Fishing Paid or Free
  2. Flick Fishing Version number (1.6, 1.3.2 etc)
  3. Number of Tires caught (0, 1, etc.)
  • This also might help Aaron out in debugging the situation (if indeed there is a bug and he hasn’t already figured it out yet). ;) I’ve been fishing like a madman for about 2 weeks now and have caught every collectible item there is to catch. Multiple times! Except for... You guessed it! A tire! I have all gizmos, rods and reels except for those that require a tire to collect (green rod, autowind+ and cast boost+ gizmos).
  • Here's my data:
  • iPod 4th generation - 32 GB - iOS version 5.1.1
  • Flick Fishing Paid - Version 1.6 - Number of Tires: 0 (that’s zero). :(
  • Thanks for your time and cooperation. Any other info you’d like to share that might be helpful will be appreciated.

I don't know what to say... I'm speechless... I just caught a Tire! Old Pond, Red Rod, Treasure Finder+ Gizmo, 24 ft. Is it that rare?!? I have 78 Chests and 56 Old Boots. I thought tires were one of the more common collectibles. I've got 4 Old Guys, 2, Titanics and a Sarge sitting around! :D

I've caught 5 and Old Guy has sold me one. Have caught > 2000 roach & > 2000 catfish in the course of seeking out those 5 tires. So, they're rare. Very rare! Have latest FF on iPhone 3G 4.2.1. Only need 2 more tires to get the fabled green rod!!!!

Thanks for responding, Graeme. Well then, patience is the word for me. I only have about 600 catfish and 500 roach. The old guy has not offered me a tire yet. I was surprised when he offered me a titanic a few months ago. Once I get enough tires, I'm going for the green rod first. :)

Either Lady Luck is smiling on me, or I've just got the knack for tires lately. I caught my second last night and 2 more tonight! I have the Green Rod and the Cast Boost+ gizmo now. Plus, I'm raking in the doubloons today because Roach is the Fish-of-the-Day! :D [insert Flick Fishing dance here...] :D

were you by any chance fishing in 'normal' mode, i.e. not extreme mode?

I tried FF on the iPad last night (not FFHD which is also there), starting from scratch, got 2 tires in normal mode.

Tried FF in normal mode back on the iPhone, picked up 1 treasure chest, 5 old boots, 2 kegs, 2 drums in... 15 minutes? No tires, but not a bad collectible catch rate. Got a lot of catfish of course plus one Old Mog. Might be worth trying that a bit more...

All the tires I've caught (got 3 more since last post above) have been in extreme mode. My rod and gizmo of choice now have been the Blue Rod and Superline+ Gizmo. My collectible rate has been similar to what you just reported plus a smattering of Party Hats & Tin Whistles too. I think I read this elsewhere on here, but my collection of chests has topped out at 127. I continue to catch more, but the count goes no higher. I've been using ragworm, so my roach count is skyrocketing with an occasional Tiddles.

There is hope, people! 6 days after my first post and zero tires, I now have caught 14 tires and have all rods, gizmos and reels! :D Now on to catching bigger fish and the challenge! ;)

I have periodically spent some time looking for tires and it seems to me that, for me at least, they are rarer than they should be. So... I ripped into the FF ipa on the computer, reverse -engineered it and ran it thought the disassembler. I think I've located the code where it all goes wrong. I may be mistaken, but think it's here...

if [[ $Plus+User == "gkc" && $iOSModel == "iPhone3G" ]]; then

probabilityOfHookingTires="practically Zero, sucks to be you, nyah nyam we've got the Ashes too"

fi

This is a pretty strong hint I either need a new Plus+ handle or the 3G has got to go. But maybe I'm reading too much into it.

(yes, it is a joke, I don't really know how to disassemble an ipa)

Graeme, you had me going there for a while... :) You know, I did something a few weeks ago that may (not likely) have something to do with my luck. One of the versions of FF asked me to install "Parachute Ninja Free". This is years ago. I since had deleted that app, but recently put it back on thinking it might have something to do with the tires. I wonder if that was it? Also, congratulations to you, Graeme. Your moniker "gkc" is very prominent on the Plus+ leaderbaords. I'll have to spend the rest of my life Flick Fishing to approach your record breakers!
